Heath Ledger (1979-2008)

The first thing I read when I went online on a beautiful Wednesday morning was the shocking death of Heath Ledger. It felt like a joke, only there was nothing funny to it. At just 28 and with the whole world seemingly in front him, it is indeed a tragic loss.

As Patrick Verona in 10 Things I Hate About You As Gabriel in the Patriot
As William Thatcher in A Knight's Tale As Giacomo Casanova in Casanova

Frankly, I had never finished watching his critically-acclaimed Brokeback Mountain but nonetheless all his other movies were enough to register his name in my mind way back in my high school days. From the first teen flick 10 Things I Hate About You, to the patriotic eldest son of Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot, to the heroic knight in A Knight's Tale and to the dashing casanova in Casanova, I enjoyed watching them all. And I was looking forward to watching him potraying Jocker in the soon-to-be-screened Batman: The Dark Knight. Instead, now it would feel kinda different knowing the person up there is actually 6 feet under.

As Joker in The Dark Knight

My deepest condolences to his family and his daughter, Matilda, who will have to grow up without ever truly getting to know her dad.

Heath Ledger, may you rest in peace.

Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror

Edgar loves to visit his Uncle Montague during the school holidays particularly to listen to his horror stories. Uncle Montague lives alone in a big house filled with a collection of objects. Coincidentally, most of his stories revolve around these items; a doll with a china head, a wooden gargoyle bench end, an empty gilt frame, and an old brass telescope just to name a few.

As each story unfolds, it soon becomes clear that the principal characters always meet terrifying ends, and Edgar begins to wonder how Uncle Montague comes to know about these spine-chilling tales. Even more so, how does Uncle Montague come into possession of such a collection of ill-fated artifacts?

From the tale of a girl who was granted three wishes to a boy's encounter with a jinn in Turkey, and ultimately Uncle Montague's own story, not all them have clear-cut endings. Rather, the author leaves it to your imagination to finish the job. Accompany by interesting illustrations, this is an intriguing stories-within-a-story that leaves me wanting for more.

MiNdBOx - Resah by Nitrus

The tune got me the first time I heard it and it currently tops my repeat-non-stop list. (It's playing as I type these very words..)

By the way, Happy 2008 though a sad song doesn't seem right to begin a new year LOL. Enjoy it nevertheless :)

Berapa lama harus aku tunggu
Kata setuju kamu
Kau biar aku menanti pilu

Kau diam bisu buat aku keliru
Mana tuju hatimu
Usah biarku resah menunggu

Raut wajahmu bisa ditelahku
Kau masih belum tentu
Apa ada rasa dalam hatimu

Datang padaku cerita padaku
Ungkapkan rasa itu
Apa saja buat hilang ragumu

Sesungguh tak kau tahu
Diriku ada kamu
Akan ku relakan semua ada ku untuk mu
Mungkin bila kau tahu
Mungkin bisa kau temui jiwaku
Usah biar terusan begitu…
